JJWild’s Healthcare Optimization Workshop (HOW ’08) Recap
Leslie Hein Sullivan, Director, Marketing Communications

JJWild held our sixth annual Healthcare Optimization Workshop (HOW ’08) at the Hilton in Dedham, Massachusetts on June 18, the day before MEDITECH’s CIO Technology Workshop.

The goal of HOW has remained unchanged for the past six years. We designed this annual one-day event as a forum to discuss significant strategic issues facing healthcare leaders. We want to encourage dialog about these important topics through educational workshops and opportunities for networking, and let you know we’re here to help you deal with them.

We were delighted this year to welcome over 120 leaders including CIOs, VPs, IT Directors, CMOs, and CFOs from over 86 different healthcare organizations in every region of the United States, the five Canadian provinces, and England. We were also happy to have many friends from MEDITECH take time out of their busy schedules to join us. Additionally, our partners BridgeHead, Dell, EMC, FormFast, Forward Advantage, HP, IBM, Motorola, Stratus, and VMware participated in the event, spending quality time with our guests throughout the day. Peterborough Regional Health Centre opens a new facility with the help of JJWild
Congratulations to Peterborough Regional Health Centre (PRHC) in Ontario, Canada on the successful move to their new facility! All patients were moved and the 494-bed facility opened for business on June 8th. JJWild was happy to help with the project, working with the PRHC team to develop the plans for the data centre move which included a current state document, future state document, and plans to get from the current to future state successfully. One of our Project Managers was brought in to spearhead the process and ensure a smooth transition. As part of the project management, we worked with PRHC to move their HCIS applications from one facility to another. This included the development and implementation of detailed move plans for all their applications (MEDITECH and other); departmental plans for IT equipment, applications, and processes; end-user devices (PCs, printers, analyzers, etc.); and IT infrastructure (servers, storage, and network equipment). Our technology engineers were also on site to help move the MEDITECH hardware to the new data centre. Thanks to Rick Salcak, Director of Information Systems, and his entire staff for allowing us to be part of this wonderful project. Congratulations!

Seeking Early Adopters for JSite Replication!

Since 2005, JSite has served as the only fully managed disaster recovery solution dedicated to serving the needs of MEDITECH hospitals and provided by a preferred MEDITECH partner. Upwards of forty customers have entrusted us with protection and recovery management of their critical MEDITECH data. We are pleased to report that we have conducted over 100 successful restore tests and that 100% of our JSite subscribers are referenceable, including three sites that have used JSite in ‘Disaster Mode’.

We are also pleased to announce development of an exciting addition to the JSite portfolio: JSite Replication!

JSite Replication is a JSite enhancement that eliminates the need for tape for disaster recovery and therefore delivers shorter Recovery Time Objectives (RTOs) and Recovery Point Objectives (RPOs). In the JSite Replication model, JJWild would always house at least two recent copies of the customer’s MEDITECH data at the JSite facility. Upon declaration of a disaster, the JSite engineers would immediately assign a server environment to the affected customer’s data and begin restoration of data and operations (rather than requiring shipment and/or restore from tape).

We are seeking three-to-five early adopters to commit to partner with us to fully build out the JSite Replication solution in exchange for early adopter pricing incentives. Like the current JSite offering, JSite Replication will continue to include an annual test (with no payment required until a successful test restore is achieved), fully documented recovery processes, and an onsite engineer in the event of a disaster.

Version one of JSite Replication will leverage EMC SANCopy technology to transfer data from your site to our JSite facility. Therefore, early adopters at this time must use EMC CLARiiON SAN technology, as opposed to other SAN platforms.

Early adopters may include either current JSite subscribers wishing to upgrade to the Replication model or new JSite subscribers. And, both MEDITECH MAGIC and Client/Server hospitals will be supported. In any case, prospects must meet or be prepared to meet certain primary data center infrastructure prerequisites.

We are very excited about this enhancement to our JSite services. It will answer many sites’ aggressive RTO/RPO needs. For others, the current, tape-based JSite offering, which can include tape vaulting services to minimize RTOs, will continue to be the best solution.

If you would like information about JSite fully managed disaster recovery services for MEDITECH hospitals—relating to either subscription to tape-based JSite or to JSite Replication or want to become a JSite Replication early adopter, please contact your JJWild Account Manager, or send an email to editor@jjwild.com.

Virtualization: Considerations for Disaster Recovery
According to Murphy’s Law, whatever can go wrong, will go wrong. When talking about disaster recovery, this could range from a major power outage to a natural disaster. If an incident like this were to occur at your primary data center, how long would it take you to recover? Without a doubt, a major concern for any IT department is not only implementing a disaster recovery solution, but a manageable one. Click here for more (PDF)

Customer Engagement: JJWild’s Consulting Services Group Delivers for Norman Regional Hospital
Norman Regional Hospital is a multi-facility system in Oklahoma comprised of a 325-bed acute care facility, inpatient rehab unit, outpatient clinics, and physician office practices. Back in the beginning of 2006, the organization began a large IT initiative to implement the full suite of MEDITECH applications, including MEDITECH’s Advanced Clinical System. It was immediately obvious to Dr. Brian Yeaman, Director of Physician Informatics, and others at Norman Regional that they were going to need an outside consultancy firm to help them oversee the project. Dr. Yeaman felt that whoever managed the task of this new implementation would have to be a dynamic and strong leader who was diligent to every detail and profoundly organized. Norman Regional chose JJWild’s Consulting Services Group to help them with their conversion and implementation of their new MEDITECH HCIS.

JJWild was delighted to receive a wonderful letter of appreciation recently from Dr. Yeaman who stated that he can proudly say Norman Regional received everything they asked for from JJWild’s Consulting Services Group. Dr. Yeaman also commented that “Our JJWild Consultant (Susan Trianosky) was a strong and decisive leader whose leadership and drive to the finish line is what helped keep the teams moving and staying on target throughout the process. Her organization and attention to detail is what kept the project on target and her vast knowledge and understanding of the subject matter was impressive by any standards.”

The project is still running strong and Norman is scheduled to go live in early 2008. We are delighted to be working with Norman Regional to meet this goal.

JJWild Qualifies the Stratus 4400 for MEDITECH
JJWild has completed certification of the Stratus 4400, an affordable 1 or 2 socket system that’s a member of industry’s first fault-tolerant quad-core servers - the Stratus ftServer® family.

Designated “Best Fault-Tolerant Server” for InfoWorld’s 2008 Technology of the Year Awards, the ftServer 4400 system is a smart choice for MEDITECH users where business-critical computing is essential for applications such as Electronic Medical Records and the Advanced Clinical System.

In addition, the 4400’s value and performance will allow MEDITECH users to utilize Stratus’ “always on” IT solutions in more of their organization and - at the same time - minimize the number of servers they need to support.

Customer testimonial: JJWild delivers for Halton Healthcare Services (HHS)
Halton Healthcare Services Inc, (HHS), part of LHIN 6 Mississauga, Ontario, is a multi-site healthcare organization serving the communities of Milton, Oakville, Clarkson, and Halton Hills.

During the February, 2007 HIMSS conference, Vert Rayner, Director of IT at HHS approached JJWild with a dilemma: HHS was running out of disk space. They had acquired new servers and a storage area network, but the scheduled resources that Vert had arranged for the configuration and data migration were suddenly not available. Vert was given last minute notification at the conference that his project timeline would have to be pushed back well beyond the date when disk space would run out.

Within a day, JJWild provided HHS with a quote for the professional services required for the install of the new servers, a storage area network, and MEDITECH VPN (which provides MEDITECH remote support connectivity), and confirmed the scheduled date for an engineer to arrive onsite. The JJWild engineer was onsite the following week, and the upgrade was completed smoothly and on time.

Vert commented, “I was very pleased with JJWild's quick response and their understanding of our sense of urgency. They have a large pool of engineering talent to draw from and were able to quickly adjust their schedule and provide quality people on very short notice. We were duly impressed with the way JJWild stepped up and helped us out of this crisis. On the basis of this experience, JJWild will be the company we approach first in the future for all MEDITECH technology purchases.”
