Enterprise Archiving
Since 1985, JJWild has dedicated its business to supporting and serving the MEDITECH community. During these years, we've watched technology advance, and seen MEDITECH hospitals evolve into technologically sophisticated, state-of-the-art institutions.
One thing has remained constant: the supremacy of the MEDITECH HCIS within the data center environment. Yes, ask any CIO or IT Director of a MEDITECH hospital and they will tell you that, if they had to isolate the single-most mission critical system within their data center, it would be MEDITECH. What has changed, however, is that no CIO or IT Director has the luxury of picking just one.
Healthcare has gone digital and that means hospitals creating an Information Lifecycle Management (ILM) strategy for their mission-critical enterprise should be planning to incorporate data from multiple source applications, in multiple formats.
Primary candidates, in addition to MEDITECH, for ILM and active archive are those types of systems that require tremendous amounts of storage space and have long-term retention requirements, although many files may be accessed only once. Picture Archiving and Communications Systems (PACS) are a prime example, as are email applications. Multiple technologies exist to intelligently manage these archives. For example, in the case of email, selected messages may be automatically harvested from users' mailboxes to a lower cost archive "messaging pool" while helping to ensure compliance requirements are met for email retention.
